Jul 08, 2011  Rumored to be the longest slot canyon in Utah, 'Egypt 3' is a semi-technical slot with tons of fun to be had. Don't bring a big backpack, or clothes you care much about, for you will have numerous.

1. Egypt 1 offers a lot packed into a short approach and exit. Those with high skill levels can downclimb the entire canyon. Others, or those with muddy feet which is my excuse, will do 3 short rappels to about 7 m ( 23 ft. ).The narrows are quite good, and the challenges just hard enough to keep it interesting.

Description It is a just short walk from the small parking area at the side of the approach road down a shallow gully to the sudden vertical drop off at the head of the canyon, where Egypt 3 plunges 120 feet as it enters the Navajo sandstone layer.

Introduction

Egypt 3 itself can be done without ropes, but is often combined with Egypt 2, making the 'down 2 up 3' trip a technical loop between the two canyons.

If you parked at Egypt 2 (as the road is much rougher after 2), you can exit the canyon and head directly north but staying east of Egypt 2. There is a climb up to exit around 37.5807, -111.2397. It is on the west side of the drainage. It also looked like a climb on the east side was possible. Also, you can hike up Egypt 2 a bit and use the Egypt 2 exit.
