Dec 11, 2018 These people must have been high on drugs or something when they packaged and shipped this out to me. I wanted 2, TWO, cans of roof cement. Not only did I get both cans badly damaged, but one of the cans were not even roof cement, but spray lacquer. The last I checked, spray lacquer will not patch a roof leak. Roof cement is a multi-purpose patching material and adhesive for repairing holes and leaks in roofs; fixing rust spots and joints in leaky gutters and metal trim; and stopping leaks in flashing around chimneys, valleys and coping. It also is used to glue down loose asphalt shingles and fill cracks in concrete. Roof cement is an emulsion of asphalt, refined mineral spirits, plasticizers and non-asbestos reinforcing fibers. There are formulas for dry and wet surfaces.

Clean dust, dirt and debris from the area to be patched. Work in dry weather if possible. Don’t thin the cement. Use formulas designed to stick to wet surfaces if you must patch areas in rainy or damp conditions.

Fill small holes and cracks with roof cement. Work it into the hole or crack with the trowel or putty knife. If you're using wet-surface formulas, work the cement thoroughly into the surface around the repair area. Smooth a thin surface coat of no more than 1/8 inch thickness over the patch. If additional coats are needed, wait 12 hours before applying another coat. When patching a roof blister, open the blister and allow it to dry thoroughly before applying roof cement. Apply cement up to 1/2 inch thick when sealing flashing.

Bridge larger holes and cracks with polyester or fiberglass fabric or rolled roofing. Coat the patch liberally with roof cement. Press the patch firmly into the damaged area. Seal with one or more surface coats of roof cement. One gallon of roof cement will cover about 12 square feet at 1/8-inch thickness.

Tip
- Store roofing cement in a warm area for 24 hours before use when patching in outdoor temperatures below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
Warning
- Don’t use roofing cement near high heat or open flame. It is combustible.
